Novena for Hope

Novena for Hope

St. Mary Catholic Church

Day 1

Intention: For the hope of peace and reconciliation between war-torn countries.

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Dear Lord, we thank you and praise you for your many graces!  We ask you during this Jubilee to help us grow in the virtue of hope.

We do not always recognize how important your theological virtues are in our lives.  You have given us the virtue of hope for a special purpose.  Hope is the power by which we firmly and constantly long for what we were placed on earth to do: to praise you and to serve you.  Through it we also long for our true happiness, which is finding our fulfillment in God.

Help us to do what we need in order to grow in holiness and give us the grace to love you above all things.

Please increase the virtue of hope in us, and we especially ask that you help all people who need more hope in their lives.

Say an Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be

Amen.

Day 2

Intention: For the hope of bearing the daily trials and struggles of life.

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Dear Lord, we thank you and praise you for your many graces!  We ask you during this Jubilee to help us grow in the virtue of hope.

It can sometimes be difficult to sustain hope in our lives during times of suffering. You call us to practice the virtue of hope even in the midst of our struggles. Through hope, we can direct all things in our life toward our journey to heaven to you.

Help us to do all we can to advance in virtue.  Give us the grace to trust you more and more each day, even in the midst of suffering.

Please increase the virtue of hope in us, and we especially ask that you help all people who need more hope in their lives.

Say an Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be

Amen.

Day 3

Intention: For the hope to obtain healing from the suffering of physical disease or mental illness.

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Dear Lord, we thank you and praise you for your many graces!  We ask you during this Jubilee to help us grow in the virtue of hope.

Hope is trusting in what God has promised us in creation, in the prophets and especially in Jesus Christ, your Son, even though we do not see it yet.  When we feel desolate and our suffering makes it difficult to trust in your love and care, strengthen our hope so that we will know that you never abandon us or leave us alone.

Help us to always rely on you for all that we need in our lives.  Give us the grace to practice the virtues even when it is difficult.

Please increase the virtue of hope in us, and we especially ask that you help all people who need more hope in their lives.

Say an Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be

Amen.

Day 4

Intention: For the hope of justice for those falsely accused.

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Dear Lord, we thank you and praise you for your many graces!  We ask you during this Jubilee to help us grow in the virtue of hope.

Lord, you know what it means to suffer, and you call us to place our trust in you even in the most extreme feelings of desolation. Help us to resist the temptation to despair and grant us your Holy Spirit so that we can patiently hope for the Truth.

Help us to surrender our lives to you fully.  Give us the grace to grow in love of you in every circumstance of our lives.

Please increase the virtue of hope in us, and we especially ask that you help all people who need more hope in their lives.

Say an Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be

Amen.

Day 5

Intention: For the hope to overcome worry, stress, discouragement and despair.

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Dear Lord, we thank you and praise you for your many graces!  We ask you during this Jubilee to help us grow in the virtue of hope.

Lord, our world today is greatly lacking in hope.  Many souls do not know you or your love and live in hopelessness and anxiety.  Give us your Spirit so that we may be a source of hope to all we encounter each day.  Help us and our whole society to embrace the virtue of hope.

Help us to grow in every virtue we need for holiness.  Give us the grace to grow to love you more and more each day of our lives.

Please increase the virtue of hope in us, and we especially ask that you help all people who need more hope in their lives.

Say an Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be

Amen.

Day 6

Intention: For the hope of attaining holiness and becoming the saints God calls us to be.

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Dear Lord, we thank you and praise you for your many graces!  We ask you during this Jubilee to help us grow in the virtue of hope.

Lord, you call us to persevere in prayer and to turn to you for help in all things.  Help us to always seek you and to trust that when we knock, the door will be opened to us.  Help us to grow in the perseverance we need to be saints.

Help us to never give into discouragement in the face of our weaknesses and sins.  Help us to take advantage of the gift of Confession in order to obtain the grace we need.

Please increase the virtue of hope in us, and we especially ask that you help all people who need more hope in their lives.

Say an Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be

Amen.

Day 7

Intention: For hope in the young and the young in heart.

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Dear Lord, we thank you and praise you for your many graces!  We ask you during this Jubilee to help us grow in the virtue of hope.

Lord, it is through hope that we long for our true happiness, which is finding our fulfillment in God.   When we feel hopeless, it can be difficult to hope for eternity with you.  Help us to be joyful in hope even when we are in the midst of suffering and difficulty.  True hope empowers us to trust you deeply and surrender all things to you.

Help us to grow to a deeper friendship with you through daily prayer.  Do not let our failings or faults divert us from our goal of being united with you.

Please increase the virtue of hope in us, and we especially ask that you help all people who need more hope in their lives.

Say an Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be

Amen.

Day 8

Intention: For hope for those who are displaced or migrants.

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Dear Lord, we thank you and praise you for your many graces!  We ask you during this Jubilee to help us grow in the virtue of hope.

Lord, sometimes we feel that we know what is best for our lives and, in our pride, we fail to trust in your plan for us.  In times of hardship, we find it hard to surrender to you fully and embrace with you the cross you have sent us.  Help us to grow in the humility we need to see our times of difficulties as sacred times spent close to you on the cross.

Help us to be humble so that we may grow in holiness and surrender everything to you.  Give us the grace to grow closer to you each day.

Please increase the virtue of hope in us, and we especially ask that you help all people who need more hope in their lives.

Say an Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be

Amen.

Day 9

Intention: That the Jubilee of Hope may bear fruit in the Church and in our world.

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Dear Lord, we thank you and praise you for your many graces!  We ask you during this Jubilee to help us grow in the virtue of hope.

Lord, in our fallen world there is much suffering, and it can be hard to maintain our hope in you.  You call us to strive for hope at all times and to make holy use of our sufferings.  Please grant that this Jubilee of Hope bears the fruit of hope in our lives, in the Church and in the whole world.

Help us to make our relationship with you the top priority in our life.  Give us the grace to live in your hope each day, no matter what difficulties we may face.

Please increase the virtue of hope in us, and we especially ask that you help all people who need more hope in their lives.

Say an Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be

Amen.

Evaluating Our Vendors Wisely — and Welcoming Our New Website! Good stewardship isn’t only about how we give — it’s also about how we manage what we have. At St. Mary’s, we regularly review our vendors and services to ensure we’re providing the highest quality services while being careful and responsible with parish resources. One recent example is our new parish website, which quietly launched this past July! If you haven’t explored it yet, now’s the perfect time — and to make it fun, we’re inviting you to join our Website Scavenger Hunt for a chance to win a $50 gift certificate to our Catholic Store (usable at our Christmas Fair or any time during the year). So, why the change? Our former site had become outdated, difficult to navigate, and cumbersome to manage. It also came with unpredictable costs and upgrade fees. After careful review, we discovered that the same company that provides our FREE PARISH BULLETINS (funded by the generous advertisers on the back — please take a moment to thank them!) also offers a FREE , U.S.-based website service with reliable tech support. The result? A new and improved site with: • Simplified navigation — easily find our bulletins , parish calendar , and online giving links . • A full translation option to make the site accessible to all. • Mass, Reconciliation, and Adoration schedules prominently displayed right on the homepage. • A new blog entitled Parish News , featuring homilies, event highlights, and these very Stewardship Spotlights. We take great care to keep information current and accurate, but if you spot something that needs attention, please let us know at information@stmaryeugene.com. Now, it’s your turn! Click around our new website, explore its features, and complete the Scavenger Hunt HERE . Submit your answers, for a chance to win that $50 Catholic Store gift card — and see how stewardship in action makes a difference every day.
